Juke Joint All Stars

No blues shouter embodied the rollicking good times that he sang of quite like raucous shouter Wynonie Harris. "Mr. Blues," as he was not-so-humbly known, joyously related risque tales of sex, booze, and endless parties in his trademark raspy voice over some of the jumpingest horn-powered combos of the post-war era.

One doesn't attemt a tribute of this magnitude unless it's certain that the musicians taking up the challenge can deliver the goods.
And these Juke Joint All Stars deliver!

Notably in his first sideband, piano virtuoso and Dutch boogie export, the one and only Mr.Boogie Woogie accompanies this finely assembled group of Tucson based musicians. The All Stars so convincingly recreate the sound, swing and feel of the original tunes that there are moments when you're convinced that Wynonie is, for this concert at least, inhabiting, the voice and spirited performance of Juke Joint Johnny Strasser. The soaring sax lines and solos by Hurricane Carla and Alex "the Rev" Flores never let the music drag for even one second.
